- Mahela Jayawardene ‘King’ in this case
The ODI series between India and Sri Lanka will now start from July 18. The two teams were earlier scheduled to clash from July 23, but the series date was pushed forward after Corona positive cases came to the Sri Lankan camp. Team India will be led by opener Shikhar Dhawan on the Sri Lanka tour. Many young people have joined the team for the first time. When India and Sri Lanka face each other, many records will be made and many will be broken. Before the start of the series, let us tell you about the player who took the most catches in ODIs between India and Sri Lanka.
‘King’ Mahela Jayawardene in the catch
Former Sri Lankan captain and legendary batsman Mahela Jayawardene achieved many big achievements in his career. He is one of the few batsmen to score more than 10,000 ODI and Test runs. But Jayawardene was a great batsman as well as a great fielder. He showed amazing agility in the India-Sri Lanka ODI matches and even today he has a big record in his name. Jayawardene is the ‘King’ in terms of catching most catches between the two teams. He took 38 catches in 86 innings of 87 matches.
Sachin a little behind, Virat too far
While Mahela Jayawardene is at the top of the list, India’s great batsman Sachin Tendulkar is only slightly behind him. Sachin took 30 catches in 80 innings of 84 ODIs. At number three is former India batsman Suresh Raina, who was known for his tremendous fielding. He helped turn the match towards India by taking difficult catches on several occasions. Raina took 25 catches in 55 matches. On the other hand, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is far away from Jayawardene in terms of taking catches. Kohli took 22 catches in 47 ODIs. Had Kohli been on the tour of Sri Lanka, the record might have been better. He is currently on tour of England.
