New Delhi: In this Jagannath temple of Puri, Odisha, there are some mysteries related to Lord Krishna present with brother Baladau and sister Subhadra. There is a story related to this, when Lord Shri Vishnu incarnated as Shri Krishna in Dwapar Yuga, it was his human form and according to the rules of creation, the death of this form was also fixed, in such a situation when Shri Krishna gave up his body, but when the Pandavas killed him. When the last rites were performed, Shri Krishna’s entire body was surrendered to the fire, but it was his heart that was beating.
It is still present in the idol of Jagannath temple, this heart part of God is called Brahma substance, after a few years when the idol of Jagannathji is changed, then this Brahma substance is removed from the old idol and placed in the new idol. It is said that great care is taken while doing this.
At the time when this holy work of Lord ji is done, then the security is very high. No one can enter the temple, it is dark inside the temple, the priest is blindfolded, the priest’s hands are wrapped with clothes.
…so at that time the electricity of the whole city is cut off
Whenever this ritual is performed, at that time the electricity of the entire city is cut off, after which the priest who changes the idol changes the face of the god. At this time the priest’s eyes are blindfolded and clothes are wrapped in his hands, it is said that the heart of Shri Krishna still beats under this idol. While changing the heart of Lord Krishna, there is a belief behind the blindfold, glove in hand and power failure of the whole city that if anyone accidentally sees him then he will die, this is the reason why the ritual of ‘Nava Kalvar’ Due care is taken before performing.
‘Navakalevara’ an ‘ancient festival’ associated with Jagannath temples
Navakalevara is an ancient festival associated with most Jagannath temples when the old idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshana are replaced with new ones. Navakalevar = Nav+Kalvar, i.e. Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshana renounce the old body and assume a new body. According to the tradition, the work of Navkalvar is done when the month of Ashadh is more. These idols are made from a special type of neem wood which is called ‘Daru Brahma’.
