India and England are facing each other in the five-Test series. The first match was drawn due to rain. Both the teams will now meet in the second Test from Thursday. The match will be played at the historic Lord’s Ground in London. Before the start of the Lord’s Test, former Indian cricketer VVL Laxman has given an important advice to Team India. Laxman believes that if ‘Virat Sena’ keeps spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and pacer Ishant Sharma in the playing XI, it will prove to be twenty one against England. Let us tell you that Ashwin was not given a chance in the first Test while Ishant could not play due to being unfit.
‘Will take the right decision by taking Ashwin in the XI’
Laxman said in a conversation with ESPN Cricinfo, ‘I hope they will take the right decision by taking Ashwin in the playing XI.’ Laxman wants Ashwin to replace Shardul Thakur in the team. It is known that Shardul is suffering from a hamstring injury. Laxman said, ‘I would like to bring in Ashwin in place of Shardul Thakur.’ Laxman said that Ashwin is currently the highest wicket-taker among spinners in world cricket. He knows how to adapt to different situations.
‘Ravichandran Ashwin knows how to mold himself’
The former cricketer said, ‘I have mentioned it earlier also that he is more than a capable bowler to perform in any situation. He is a skilled bowler, who has taken more than 400 wickets. He has so many wickets that he knows how to adapt to different conditions. Ashwin will add variety and strength to the bowling line-up. Ashwin has improved significantly in the SENA countries – South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia – since 2018. Since 2018, the off-spinner has taken 43 wickets at an average of 28.23 in 12 Tests in Army countries. Earlier, Ashwin’s average was 56.58.
The arrival of Ashwin will add depth to the batting
Laxman also emphasized on Ashwin’s ability to bat. He said that this will give more depth to the Indian batting order. Laxman said, “He (Ashwin) can contribute with the bat as well. We know he has scored 5 Test centuries. With the arrival of Ashwin, Virat Kohli has many options, no matter what kind of conditions he plays in. Apart from Ashwin, Laxman suggested Ishant Sharma to be selected in the playing XI.
‘I have seen Siraj bowling’
He said that Ishant should be brought in the playing XI for the Lord’s Test in place of young fast bowler Mohammad Siraj. However, Laxman also said that if Ishant is not fully fit then only Siraj should be given a chance. The former batsman said, ‘If Ishant Sharma is 100 percent fit then he should be brought directly in place of Siraj. But if Ishant is not fully fit then I will support Siraj as I have seen him bowl in the first Test. You can’t take risk with Ishant because he is a very important player in the team.
