New DelhiSanju Samson had a bad time in Sri Lanka. The Rajasthan Royals captain made his debut in the third and formal match and scored 46 runs. The Indian team had already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series before Samson’s debut. Then in the series of three T20 International matches, Samson tried to show his ability by playing an innings of 27 runs, but then returned to the dugout by giving his wicket to the opposing team.
After this, Kovid-19 cases were reported in the Indian camp and eight players had to go into isolation due to close contact with Krunal Pandya. Then the Indian team entered the match with only five batsmen. Sanju Samson didn’t have a better chance to prove his mettle but could only manage 7 and 0 runs in the next two T20Is respectively. Sanju Samson was seen struggling against the spinners and his pole was exposed.
In this way, Samson missed the opportunity and could not show his ability at the best level. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt slammed Sanju Samson, calling him a careless and lazy batsman.
Samson did not live up to the expectations: Salman Butt
Butt said on his YouTube channel, ‘Sanju Samson looks like a lazy batsman to me. When you know you don’t understand a bowler, you should put your pad ahead of the bat and play it outside. But still Samson was trying to play the shot by going on the backfoot. ‘So what happened that Samson could not bat the ball and got bogged down in front of the stumps. It appeared that he had very careless thinking.
He further said, ‘When you know there are only five batsmen in the team and you are one of them. Two are already out. You should have been more careful in such a situation. But I didn’t see that effort in Sanju Samson. Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad have played only two matches. It is true that he did not score runs like in the IPL. But he has the potential and will get a chance to prove his mettle in the future on better pitches. As far as Sanju Samson is concerned, he has not lived up to the expectations. He didn’t take any responsibility. There are moments where you can make a name for yourself.
