- Afridi has targeted the Pakistan Cricket Board
Pakistan cricket and controversies rarely leave the side. While the team is performing well under the captaincy of Babar Azam, there are still issues regarding some matters of selection in the Pakistan cricket world. Former captain Shahid Afridi, who has retired from the national team and is currently playing franchise cricket, has targeted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He has slammed the PCB for Pakistan’s current international cricket model. He said that after playing one or two home matches, it hurts to select a player in the Pakistan team.
‘Playing for Pakistan has become very easy’
Let us tell you that in the last few years many Pakistani players have made their debut from the Pakistan team. However, most of the players could not cement their place in the team. Afridi said at a function, “Playing for the national team has become very easy whereas earlier it was very difficult for any professional cricketer to play for Pakistan. That’s why our performance is not consistent. “Why have we made it so easy for players to represent our country? I am sad to see that a player who performs well once or twice in domestic cricket or PSL gets picked up in the national team. What is this? Cricketers should be encouraged to play domestic cricket.
‘Send back to domestic cricket for not performing’
Afridi further said, ‘The real difference in playing international cricket is how strong a player is mentally to handle all the pressure that comes in international matches. It also includes criticism and glare from media-fans. We should now also measure the difference between a player’s talent and mental strength. “If you give a player a chance and he doesn’t perform, he should be sent back to domestic cricket. Don’t make playing for Pakistan so easy. Players should know the value of international cricket. I am totally against those players who come to Pakistan team by giving just one or two performances.
