Karachi: The new England team forced Pakistan to face an embarrassing defeat in the first ODI. England, led by Ben Stokes, bowled out Pakistan for just 141 runs and then chased down the target in 21.1 overs for the loss of one wicket and registered a mammoth victory. After Pakistan’s humiliating defeat, former captain Shahid Afridi has encouraged his team.

Pakistan’s start was very bad and Imam-ul-Haq and captain Babar Azam could not even open the account. Fakhar Zaman (47) was the team’s best scorer. Saqib Mahmood took four wickets and played a key role in getting Pakistan out early. After this, Jack Crawley and David Malan scored brilliant half-centuries to give England a huge victory.

This defeat of Pakistan was embarrassing because 5 players made their ODI debut for England and Ben Stokes was the only regular player in his team. While the Pakistan team was reprimanded by the fans, Afridi said that forgetting what happened, move on and keep trying to win.

The former Pakistan all-rounder tweeted, ‘We must forget this match as soon as possible. Pakistan I am sure not so bad. The boys come back strong and show their mettle at Lord’s on Saturday. England played brilliantly. The newly launched team gave top performance.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam gave credit to the English bowlers for not giving their team’s batsmen a chance to settle at the crease. Babar Azam said after the match, ‘He took our wickets early and did not allow us to score big. Credit to the English bowlers who took away the momentum from us. Fakhar Zaman can open. He brought good form from PSL here. Our focus is on the next match.
