  • The final is being played in Southampton, England
  • The game has been disrupted several times due to rain.

The weather has proved to be a villain in the World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and New Zealand being played in Southampton. While the first day’s play was washed out due to rain, the second day and third day’s play was called off early due to bad light. The game was expected to take place on Monday, but the fourth day also got washed out in rain. So far, only 141.1 overs have been played in the title match, due to which the former cricketers including cricket fans are also unhappy. Former India explosive Virender Sehwag has slammed the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the venue of the WTC final. He also wrapped up the batsmen.

‘ICC didn’t get proper timing’

Let us tell you that the final of the Test Championship was earlier to be played at the historic Lord’s ground in London. But due to the Corona epidemic, the ICC shifted the venue of the final to the Ageas Bowl Stadium in Southampton. However, many had expressed apprehension that the fun of the final might get spoiled due to rain. In such a situation, when the rain in Southampton is affecting the match, then people are criticizing the ICC. Known for his quirky style, Sehwag wrote on the official Twitter account, ‘The batsmen also did not get the timing and the ICC too.’ Let us tell you that the batsmen are facing a lot of difficulty in playing in the final.

ICC will use reserve day

The weather was not improving since morning on the fourth day and the umpires decided to call off the day’s play after waiting for nearly four and a half hours. In such a situation, the ICC will use Reserve Day (June 23), due to which there is still two days of match to be played. Significantly, on the third day on Sunday, India’s first innings was bowled out for 217 runs and New Zealand scored 101 for two at stumps. Captain Kane Williamson 12 and Ross Taylor were unbeaten without opening an account. Kiwi team is still 116 runs behind India’s score.
