Karachi: Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has rubbished reports that he had stepped down as the national team’s batting coach after an argument with batsman Hasan Ali. Younis, however, refused to divulge the real reasons for his decision, citing contractual obligations.
Younis had resigned a few days ago, but neither he nor the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) gave any explanation in this regard. Later media reports said that Younis did this because of the knee he suffered after an argument with Ali over an ‘ice bath’ after the training session. “Let me make it clear that the incident with Hasan Ali is not the reason behind my decision to step down as batting coach,” Younis said in an interview to ‘Jung’ newspaper. The whole episode was presented exaggeratedly.
He said, ‘Yes, trainer Yasir Malik told me to talk to Hasan Ali and convince him that he should take an ice bath. After this an argument ensued but Hasan later apologised, and the matter came to an end. Younis said the reason for his resignation was something else, but he was bound by a contract with the PCB which does not allow him to speak on the matter for six months.
“In the interest of Pakistan cricket and PCB, I have not commented on the matter so far and our team is also touring England,” he said. Younis said that there are some people in the PCB who broke their trust and damaged their reputation by leaking things.
Would like to serve Pakistan cricket in future: Younis Khan
Younis Khan said that he had made it clear from day one that he would only talk to Chairman Ehsan Mani and CEO Wasim Khan. He said, ‘In future I would like to serve Pakistan cricket and work with the board. Let me ensure that the matters in our agreement are transparent and clear.
