New Delhi: Former Indian wicketkeeper and former selector Saba Karim has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to retire MS Dhoni’s jersey. Karim said that in honor of MS Dhoni’s contribution to Indian cricket, BCCI should retire his iconic jersey number-7. Dhoni has been one of the most successful captains and his records prove it well. Along with being one of the most successful captains in the world, Dhoni has been the best wicket-keeper batsman in the country.

The former India captain celebrated his 40th birthday on Wednesday and cricket fans from across the globe wished Dhoni. Talking about Dhoni’s contribution to Indian cricket on his birthday, Saba Karim said that not only Dhoni but BCCI should also retire the jerseys of other veterans so that his legacy lives on.

While interacting in the Khelneeti podcast, Saba Karim said, “I think not only MS Dhoni’s jersey, BCCI should preserve the jerseys of many other Indian legends. The board should ensure that the jersey number of that legend is not used by anyone else. In this way the achievements and contributions of the legends of Indian cricket will be recognized. Most importantly, doing this will bring respect to these legends.

Dhoni is the only captain in the world

MS Dhoni retired from international cricket last year. He represented the Indian team in 350 ODIs, 90 Tests and 98 T20 Internationals. Dhoni scored more than 17,000 runs in his international career. He led India in 332 matches across all forms of cricket, which is more than any other captain in the world.

Dhoni is the only captain in the world to have won all three ICC trophies (T20 World Cup, World Cup and Champions Trophy). Karim believes that Dhoni has contributed a lot to Indian cricket, but now he can shape the career of the youth if he wants. He can remain with the youth as a mentor.

My only wish is that Dhoni guides the youth at the state level. If this happens then it will be great for the future of Indian cricket. MS Dhoni is leading CSK in IPL. He will be seen in cricket action in the second phase of IPL 2021.
