The ODI series between England and Sri Lanka began on Tuesday. In the first match of the ODI series at Chester-le-Street, the hosts England won the toss and decided to bowl first. For the Sri Lankan team, two batsmen played half-centuries but still their team was reduced to 185 runs in 42.3 overs. The biggest contributor to this havoc was the 32-year-old veteran England pacer Chris Woakes, who also completed a special figure in ODI cricket.

The Sri Lankan team got the first blow in this match in the form of opener Pathum Nisanka (5 runs) in the fifth over when Chris Woakes got him caught by Moeen Ali. After this, the havoc of Chris Woakes did not stop. He not only took important wickets but also bowled very economical due to which the Sri Lankan team could only manage 185 runs.

5 maiden overs, no run in 49 balls

Chris Woakes did 10 overs in this one-day match, during which he did the most important thing, that was to bowl five over maidens. Yes, Woakes did not concede a single run in these five overs. It was not only these 30 balls that Woakes did not give any runs, but in his 10 overs (60 balls), he did not give any runs off 49 balls. He took 4 wickets in his 10 overs conceding just 18 runs.

Record of four maidens in powerplay

This experienced fast bowler did four overs in the first six overs i.e. powerplay and these four were maiden overs. He is the first English bowler after 2008 who has done this feat. Earlier in 2008, Stuart Broad did this feat against New Zealand in the Bristol ODI match.

150 in ODIs

Apart from this, along with taking four wickets, Chris Woakes also crossed the 150-wicket mark in ODI cricket. He came in the match with 149 wickets and completed his 150 ODI wickets as soon as Pathum Nisanka was dismissed. Now he has taken 153 wickets in 101 ODI innings. He is the sixth bowler in England’s ODI history to have taken more than 150 wickets.

Highest ODI wicket-taker for England

The highest wicket-takers in ODI history for England cricket team are as follows: James Anderson (269 wickets), Darren Gough (234 wickets), Stuart Broad (178 wickets), Andrew Flintoff (168 wickets), Adil Rashid (158 wickets) ) and Chris Woakes (153 wickets).
