The first Test of the five-Test series between India and England ended in a draw on Sunday. Now both the teams will meet in the second Test from Thursday. The match will be played at the historic Lord’s ground. Before the Lord’s Test, former India cricketer and famous commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has selected the favorite Indian team. They have dropped all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur from their playing XI. Let us tell you that both of them performed effectively in the first test. While Jadeja scored a half-century in the first innings at number seven, Shardul took four wickets in the match.
‘I would still like to give Pujara a chance’
Manjrekar has preferred spinner Ravichandran Ashwin over Jadeja. Ashwin played in the first test. Apart from this, he has chosen Hanuma Vihari in place of Shardul. Manjrekar said in a conversation on Sony Sports, ‘Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will be my openers. I would like to put Pujara at number three. We didn’t get to see Pujara batting in the second innings but I would still like to give him a chance. Manjrekar wants India to play a specialist batsman at number six. In such a situation, he has placed wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant at number seven.
Manjrekar further said, ‘Virat Kohli will bat at number four in my playing XI. Ajinkya Rahane will play at number five. It is a bit controversial selection as I want to bring in a specialist batsman at No. This will add some depth to the batting as two-three batsmen are out of form at the moment. The ball moves a little in England.
‘I would like to bring Ashwin in the team’
He said, ‘I would like to bring Ashwin in the team. I think he was thrown out wrong in the first match. I am bringing in a bowler who has more chances of taking wickets on a good pitch. I will keep three fast bowlers – Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah. I don’t know if Ishant Sharma is fit or not, but I would go with Mohammad Siraj as he has the ability to take five wickets.
Sanjay Manjrekar’s Playing XI for Lord’s Test: KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj.
