Dubai : Due to the Corona epidemic, the T20 World Cup will be played in UAE and Oman instead of India from 17 October to 14 November. The International Cricket Council made this announcement on Tuesday. A day earlier, the BCCI had indicated that the T20 World Cup would be played outside India.

The ICC said that BCCI will be the host of the tournament, which will now be played at the Dubai International Stadium, Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium and Oman Cricket Academy Ground from October 17 to November 14, 2021. Eight qualifying teams will participate in the first round of the tournament, which will be played in Oman and the UAE. Four of these teams will advance to the Super 12 round where there will be eight qualifiers.

The upcoming tournament will be the first T20 World Cup since 2016. The last time West Indies won the title by defeating England. The eight teams in the preliminary round include Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman and Papua New Guinea. The final of the tournament will be played on November 14. ICC CEO Geoff Allardyce said that our priority is to organize the ICC T20 World Cup safely and that too within the current schedule.

He said that this decision gives us certainty about organizing the tournament in a country that has already hosted major tournaments in a bio-secure environment. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that we would be happy to host the tournament in India. But in the current situation and considering the importance of the World Championship, BCCI will host it in UAE and Oman.
