Colombo: Team India on Wednesday gave four players a chance to debut in the second T20 International match against Sri Lanka. All-rounder Krunal Pandya is Kovid-19 positive and eight players had to go into isolation due to his contact, which paved the way for the debut of these four players. In the second T20 International, India gave Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana and Chetan Sakariya a chance to make their T20I debuts.

This is the second time in India’s T20 International cricket history, when the Indian team has given a debut opportunity to four players simultaneously. Earlier on 13 September 2007, in the T20 International match against Scotland, the Indian team made four players debut. These players were – Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, RP Singh and Yuvraj Singh. This match was played under the ICC World T20, which was washed out due to rain. Only a toss was possible in this match, but not a single ball could be bowled.

Let us tell you that except India’s first T20 International match, twice he also gave five players a chance to make his T20 International debut in a match. For the first time, this opportunity came on 17 July 2015 when India made five players debut against Zimbabwe. Axar Patel, Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Sandeep Sharma and Stuart Binny made their T20 International debuts in this match.

The very next year, on June 18, 2016, the Indian team again made five players debut against Zimbabwe. Their names are Jaydev Unadkat, KL Rahul, Mandeep Singh, Rishi Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal. The Indian team had to face defeat by 2 runs in this match. So India is the only team, which has given debut opportunity to five and four players twice in T20 International cricket.
