Indians vs County Select XI: The Indian Test team on the tour of England started testing their preparations with the practice match that started on Tuesday. Against the County Select XI team, the players of the Indian team took to the pitch but captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane were rested for the match. Rohit Sharma was the captain of the Indian team in the match, while the command of the opposing team is in the hands of Will Rhodes. By the end of the first day’s play, India had scored 306 runs in 90 overs for the loss of 9 wickets.

In the match, the pair of Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal came out to open for India but Rohit Sharma (9) was dismissed cheaply on the score of 33 runs. Eight runs later, Mayank Agarwal also got bowled after playing an innings of 28 runs. Both these shocks to India were given by Lyndon James.

After this, Test specialists Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari were expected to survive. But Pujara was stumped after playing a slow innings of 21 runs in 47 balls while Hanuma Vihari’s innings was slower than Pujara and he was caught after scoring 24 runs in 71 balls.

However, in the middle order, KL Rahul, playing in place of wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who was recovering from Kovid-19, showed restraint and took advantage of the opportunity. Rahul first played a half-century inning with restraint and along with Ravindra Jadeja has carried forward the team’s innings. But after some time, Rahul increased the pace and made a brilliant century on sight. Rahul played an innings of 101 runs in 150 balls which included 11 fours and 1 six.

Simultaneously, Rahul declared his innings (Retired Out) so that other batsmen could get a chance (this is a relaxation in practice matches). On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja also increased the pace by balancing his innings after the retirement of Rahul. Jadeja further strengthened India’s score by scoring a brilliant half-century. Jadeja was dismissed after playing a brilliant innings of 75 runs in 146 balls. Akshar Patel was dismissed for 0 while Umesh Yadav scored 12 runs. Bumrah (3) and Siraj (1) are on the pitch.
