Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday asked its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Manu Sawhney to step down from the global cricket body with immediate effect. The ICC also stated that its acting CEO Geoff Allardyce will continue to work closely with the ICC Executive Board.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the decision to remove Sawhney was taken at an emergency meeting of the board led by Greg Barkley. The ICC issued a statement saying, ‘CEO Sahni will have to leave the global body of cricket with immediate effect. Allardyce will continue to serve with the board as the acting CEO.
The ICC had called an emergency meeting of the board to take a decision on the suspended chief executive officer. Sawhney had accused the world body of taking unilateral, non-transparent and unfair decisions.
Earlier, Sahni was sent on leave in March this year following a review conducted by PricewaterhouseCooper Pvt Ltd, which alleged misconduct.
