Virat Kohli-led Indian team lost to New Zealand in the final of the first World Test Championship (WTC). Kohli had said after the final that in future the best Test team in the world should be decided on the basis of ‘best of three finals’ rather than one final. However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly does not agree with Kohli’s suggestion of playing three matches in the final. He has given his outspoken opinion on the WTC Finals.
‘I’d love to wait’
Apart from Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri also supported the idea of a ‘best of three final’ to decide the WTC champion. Recently, when Sourav Ganguly was asked his views on Kohli’s suggestion, the Indian captain said that as the season progresses, the ICC will look into many things and it is too early to say anything. Ganguly told The Week magazine, ‘It is too early to say anything. Let this season end. ICC will look into many things. I would prefer to wait before saying anything now.’
‘Test is the biggest and strongest format’
Ganguly himself is a big fan of the longest format of cricket. He praised the ICC for starting the World Test Championship. He described Test as the biggest and strongest format. Ganguly said, “It is definitely a very good concept. I think Test is the biggest and strongest format of cricket and it should be final. As far as the only Test in the form of a final is concerned, this is the first season. Things will be looked into for the future. ICC will get feedback from all stakeholders.
