The delta form of Kovid-19 is becoming more prevalent in the world than other forms of this virus because it is transmitted more rapidly. World Health Organization chief scientist Soumya Swaminath made this claim on Friday. The delta form of Kovid-19 first appeared in India.
Delta variants in 80 countries of the world
According to the Kovid-19 weekly epidemiological update released by the WHO on June 15, the delta form is now being found in about 80 countries. B.1.617.2 Delta form was first detected in India in October 2020. Swaminathan said in response to a question at a press conference in Geneva on Friday that the delta form is becoming the most dominant form of Kovid-19 in the world Because the spread of infection is much faster than this.
Effect of Delta variant on more than 75 thousand in UK
Public Health England said that infections from the delta form had increased by 33,630 in the UK in a week and so far 75,953 people have been infected. This form accounts for 99 percent of the cases of Kovid-19 infection in the country. Rochelle Valensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Washington, said that she thinks the delta form will emerge as the corona virus form infecting the most people in the US Swaminathan in Geneva said that there is a need to collect more data on the efficacy of different vaccines against different forms of Kovid-19.
Deadly Delta havoc in Sri Lanka
Officials in Sri Lanka have said that the highly contagious delta form of the coronavirus has been detected for the first time within the community in the country.
Dr. Chandima Jeevandara, Director, Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit in the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine at Sri Jayawardenepura University, said that this form of the virus has been found in samples taken from the area of Dematagouda, a suburb of Colombo.
Jivandara said that eight samples were taken from Dematagowda, out of which five have been found infected with the delta form of the corona virus. We continuously monitor the different forms of the virus through different PCR test kits. This is the first time that this form of corona virus has been found in the community, before that two people were found infected with the delta form but they were in an isolated habitat.
An earlier report by the university said that the delta form is 50 percent more contagious than the alpha form found in the country and is capable of causing more severe disease and a single dose of the vaccine may be ineffective against it.
