Mumbai: Batsman Sachin Tendulkar said that India lost the final of the World Test Championship after losing Indian team captain Virat Kohli and number three batsman Cheteshwar Pujara within two overs. The highest run-scorer in Tests and ODIs said that New Zealand, known as the Blackcaps, were a better team. Tendulkar posted on his Twitter account, “Congratulations to the Black Caps on winning the World Test Championship. You were the better team.
Sachin further wrote, ‘Team India will be disappointed with its performance. As I mentioned first 10 overs will be crucial and India lost both Kohli and Pujara in 10 balls and it put a lot of pressure on the team.
Both Kohli and Pujara were dismissed by long pacer Kyle Jameson, who took the movement and bounce off the Southampton pitch on the sixth day, which was reserve day. While Kohli fell on the fifth ball of the 35th over, Pujara was dismissed on the third ball of the 37th over. Overall, the Kiwis attempted to bowl and bat far better, which was acknowledged by many former cricketers.
Former India batsman VVS Laxman said on his Twitter handle, ‘Congratulations Kiwis on being the team champions. The New Zealand bowlers were brilliant, Williamson and Taylor applied their experience to finish the job. Former England opener and commentator Michael Atherton called the Kiwis ‘humble’ and ‘hardworking’.
