Southampton: Sanjay Manjrekar never hesitated to express his opinion and views on the game of gentlemen. In the 2019 World Cup, he said that he is a bits and pieces cricketer when Ravindra Jadeja was not selected. His statement had angered Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has increased his graph in international cricket since 2018. Jadeja scored 77 runs against New Zealand in the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Although Jadeja’s innings could not save India from defeat, the all-rounder gave a befitting reply to Manjrekar with his action after completing his half-century. Since then Jadeja and Manjrekar do not get along well. The Indian team lost to New Zealand in the WTC final. After this, Sanjay Manjrekar has once again pointed fingers at Jadeja and said that the Indian team made a mistake by choosing him as a batsman.
Manjrekar said in a conversation with Cricinfo, ‘If you already see how the Indian team went to the match. The toss was delayed due to rain. The conditions looked favorable to the fast bowlers, yet India played both the spinners. The Indian team chose one spinner because of his batting and that is Ravindra Jadeja. His left-arm spin was not the reason for the selection. Picked Jadeja for his batting, which I am always against.
Manjrekar further said, “You should pick specialist players in the team and if he felt that the pitch would dry and turn, he would have picked Jadeja along with Ashwin, which would have proved the point. But he chose Jadeja to bat and I think the same bet backfired for the Indian team.
There was a dispute between Jadeja and Manjrekar in the past too
Ravindra Jadeja scored 15 and 16 runs respectively in both the innings against New Zealand in Southampton and took only one wicket in the entire match. It will be interesting to see how Jadeja will react to Manjrekar’s statement now. Jadeja has earlier narrated Manjrekar openly on Twitter.
