Bristol: Opener Shafali Verma on Sunday became the youngest Indian cricketer to make her debut in all formats as she stepped into the first women’s ODI against England. Debutant Shefali scored 15 off 14 balls before returning to the pavilion off Katherine Brunt.
Haryana’s Shefali made her debut in all formats at the age of 17 years and 150 days. He is ranked fifth in the all-time list of youngest cricketers to debut, with Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman at the top. Mujeeb made his debut in all formats of the game at the age of 17 years and 78 days.
It is followed by England’s Sarah Taylor (17 years and 86 days), Australia’s Alice Perry (17 years and 104 days) and Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir (17 years and 108 days). Shefali made her only Test debut against England, scoring 96 and 63 last week.
She became the youngest batsman to score two half-centuries on her debut in Women’s Test. Since making her international debut in September 2019, Shefali has so far scored 617 runs in 22 T20Is with the help of three half-centuries.
