Mumbai: Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that while skipper Virat Kohli can open the innings along with Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup, Suryakumar Yadav is the ideal player to bat at the third order. Kohli and Rohit Sharma opened the innings in the fifth match of the home T20 series against England in March this year with a 94-run partnership. They also played the role of opening bat together against New Zealand in 2014.

Manjrekar said, “Yes, I think he (Surya) is leading the race (batting at third order), especially when there are reports that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are going to play the role of openers for India. are. I don’t know what his plans are with (KL) Rahul, definitely someone like Suryakumar Yadav finds a place in the team. I have rarely seen anyone bat so effectively in an entire season in IPL (Indian Premier League).

Ishaan Kishan my choice over Samson: Manjrekar

The T20 World Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman instead of India from October 17. Regarding the upcoming series against Sri Lanka starting on July 13, Manjrekar said that he would love to see Ishan Kishan batting with consistency (consistently good innings) rather than Sanju Samson. Manjrekar said that while behind the wicket skills are more important in Test cricket, being a good batsman in the white-ball (limited overs) format is a better option.

Manjrekar said, ‘Ishaan Kishan is my choice, it is because I want to bat with consistency. Keeping is not as important in limited overs cricket as it is in test matches, it is even less important in T20s, so you really want to pick a better batsman. Samson bats unbelievably when he is in rhythm, there seems to be no one better than him. For me though consistency is more important and this is where I would love to see Kishan over Sanju Samson.

I would definitely keep this batsman in the last-11: Jadeja

According to the former batsman, the tour of Sri Lanka will also be important for spinner Kuldeep Yadav. “I am really happy with the way the selection was made. Good to see that Kuldeep Yadav has been brought back. In the last year or a few years, he lost his place from the team.

“He (Yuzvendra) along with Chahal was a game-changer in the limited overs Indian team at one point of time. It is good that the selectors gave him a chance to stake his claim again as he is not getting much chance in the IPL.

Manjrekar believes that all-rounder Hardik Pandya can play as a batsman in the team. Pandya did this against Australia last season. “Hardik proved himself in Australia that he is fully capable of playing in the team as a pure batsman, there is no doubt that he can do it now,” he said.

Former India batsman Ajay Jadeja was also a part of this conversation. He backed young Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal to open the innings against Sri Lanka. He said, ‘I like Devdutt Padikkal. He is the future, but you also have Prithvi Shaw. Whether to give a chance in the team all depends on the people who are running the team at that particular moment. I would have kept Padikkal in the team (last 11), he is a special batsman.
