  • Few months left for the start of T20 World Cup
  • Kohli’s captaincy under question before World Cup
  • Kohli is the captain of India’s three-format team

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is to be played in the UAE in October-November. The Indian team under the leadership of Virat Kohli is once again eager to show stamina in the big tournament. Under Kohli’s leadership, India has made its mark in many ICC tournaments, but the team has not won any title so far. Questions are also being raised on Kohli’s captaincy after losing the World Test Championship final against New Zealand last month.

Many former cricketers are of the opinion that instead of captaining in all three formats, Kohli should share his responsibility. Whenever there is a mention of sharing the captaincy of Team India, the name of ‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma definitely comes. Now former India wicket-keeper batsman Deep Dasgupta has made a big prediction about Kohli’s captaincy. However, he has also given a condition as well. Dasgupta says that if something goes wrong in the T20 World Cup, Rohit will be the main contender to replace Virat.

‘Fulltime captain leads the team in his own way’

Deep Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel, ‘Rohit Sharma has led the Indian team before, but there is a difference between an acting captain and a full time captain. So you don’t want to make too many changes compared to before. But when you are a full-time captain, obviously you want to change, because you want to run the team in your own way.

Dasgupta further said, ‘I believe it would be unfair for Rohit, team and Virat to make changes just three-four months before the World Cup. But I think the T20 World Cup will be important in this regard because if anything goes wrong, Rohit will be one of the main contenders for the captaincy. Let us tell you that while captaining Team India, Rohit has registered 15 wins in 19 matches. In the year 2018, India also won the Nidahas Trophy under his leadership.

Rohit Sharma most successful captain in IPL

It is worth noting that Rohit has a lot of experience of captaincy. Like Kohli, Rohit is also the captain in the IPL. Rohit has been captaining Mumbai Indians since 2013 and is the most successful captain in terms of winning the title. Under Rohit’s captaincy, Mumbai won five titles. At the same time, Kohli has also been leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since 2013, but has not won any IPL trophy.
