Wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das missed out on a century by just five runs but a century partnership between him and Mahmudullah helped Bangladesh overcome the initial setbacks to score 294 for eight on the opening day of the one-off Test against Zimbabwe on Wednesday. Litton scored 95 which is his highest score.
Liton played a brilliant innings but was caught at fine leg by Donald Tiripano shortly before the day’s play was declared early due to poor light. He hit 13 fours in his innings.
Liton shared a 138-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Mahmudullah (54 not out). Earlier, captain Mominul Haque (70) and Shadman Islam (23) had put on 60 runs for the third wicket but Bangladesh looked to be in trouble at 132 for six after deciding to bat first.
At the end of the day’s play, Taskin Ahmed was playing with Mahmudullah for 13 runs. For Zimbabwe, Blessing Mujarabani took three for 48 while Tiripano and Victor Nyuchi took two wickets each.
