Ever since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, people are seeing a cloud of uncertainty looming over their future. The Taliban have also occupied cricket stadiums. Meanwhile, there has been a major reshuffle in the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). Azizullah Fazli has again become the ACB chairman. He was on Sunday appointed as the acting chairman of the ACB. The Taliban representatives had a meeting with the ACB office bearers, after which it was decided to hand over the reins of the cricket board to Azizullah.

The board made this tweet on the appointment of Azizullah

Azizullah’s appointment to the ACB is considered a major development after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan and President Ashraf Ghani left the country. ACB tweeted, “Former ACB Chairman Fazli has been re-appointed as Executive Chairman of the Board. He will oversee ACB’s leadership and action for the upcoming competitions. Azizullah had earlier become the chairman of the ACB after Atif Mashal had resigned from the post. His tenure was from September 2018 to July 2019. Farhan Yousafzai became the chairman after he stepped down.

Azizullah has been associated with Afghanistan cricket for nearly two decades. He was among the earliest group of players to establish the sport in the country. After his playing career ended, he also served as the vice-president and consultant of the ACB. It is noteworthy that ACB CEO Hamid Shinwari said a few days ago after the Taliban took over that cricket will not suffer as the Taliban “likes” the game and supports it. He said that I do not see any interference and hope for support so that our cricket can progress.
