Former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait was on Monday appointed as the bowling coach of Afghanistan with immediate effect. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced this ahead of the ODI series against Pakistan in Hambantota, Sri Lanka next month. This will be the first time that Tait will take over coaching in international cricket. Tait represented Australia in all three formats from 2004 to 2016.
Tait, also known as ‘The Wild Thing’, is considered one of the fastest bowlers in the world. He bowled the fastest delivery of 161.1 kmph against England in 2010 which was the second fastest delivery in ODIs.
Tait has taken five, 62 and 28 wickets in three Tests, 35 ODIs and 21 T20Is respectively. He played an important role in Australia’s World Cup win in 2007 and took 23 wickets in 11 matches.
He has tried his hand at coaching after retiring from international cricket in 2017 due to an elbow injury. He has been the bowling coach of Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League.
