New Delhi: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, who left the country after Taliban control in Afghanistan, addressed the public and announced that he plans to return to Afghanistan in the near future to bring justice to all Afghan citizens. He dismissed the allegations that he fled the country with a large sum of money. He said that these are lies. His statement came after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) told that he is in his country.
Speaking from Dubai, Ghani said he is in the UAE to “prevent disasters”. In a video message posted on Facebook, Ashraf Ghani said he would have witnessed violence if he had chosen to stay in Kabul. He also thanked the Afghan defense forces for fighting the battle against the Taliban.
Ashraf Ghani said, ‘Security officials had warned that the Taliban was looking for me. I could not stay in Kabul. I didn’t want to end up like Mohammad Najibullah, who was hanged by the Taliban in 1996. “Until I return, I am consulting with others so that I can continue my efforts for justice for Afghans,” the president said.
He further reiterated that he decided to leave his countrymen to stop any bloodshed and prevent any ‘major calamity’. Ashraf Ghani also noted that the Afghan government’s talks with the Taliban did not reach any conclusion. This is our failure.
