New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced that it will give Rs 10 crore to help the Olympic-going Indian contingent at the request of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Sports Ministry. The decision in this regard was taken during the BCCI’s emergency Apex Council meeting which was attended by Board President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah.

According to the BCCI statement, ‘BCCI has decided to help the Indian players in every way possible. Following a request from the IOA and the Sports Ministry, the BCCI Apex Council decided to cooperate with the IOA for which financial assistance of Rs 10 crore would be provided. A senior BCCI official told PTI, “This fund will be used for the preparation and other purposes of our top players who have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.” The mode of payment will be decided after talking to the Sports Ministry and the Indian Olympic Association. The Tokyo Olympic Games will begin on 23 July.
