The three-match ODI series between England and Pakistan is to begin from July 8. But before that, hosts England have suffered a major setback. The England team has been attacked by Corona and three of its players have been found infected. Along with this, four staff members have also come in the grip of viral. The England team has currently gone into isolation. However, there will be no change in the schedule of the series. The England Cricket Board (ECB) will announce the new team on Tuesday.
‘We had an idea that the cases of infection may increase’
The ECB said in a statement, ‘PCR tests were conducted in Bristol on Monday, following which the Board confirms that seven members of the England men’s ODI team – three players and four management team members – have been found infected with Kovid-10. ‘ The board further said that those affected will now be in self-isolation under the UK government’s quarantine protocol. People coming in contact with the infected will also have to be in self-isolation. At the same time, Tom Harrison, Chief Executive of the ECB, said that we had anticipated that cases of infection could increase due to the emergence of the delta variant and the removal of the strong bio-secure bubble.
Ben Stokes will now lead the team
The England team will now be led by the mighty all-rounder Ben Stokes. He is making a comeback from a limited series after injury. Stokes was injured in the first leg of IPL 2021.
