- India has set an embarrassing record in the only test
The Indian women’s cricket team and England have faced each other in a one-off Test. At present, England has the upper hand. England declared their first innings by scoring 396 for 9 on the second day and then cheaply piled up the Indian team on the third day i.e. on Friday. India were all out for 231 in the first innings despite a tremendous start of 167 runs. With this, a shameful record has been registered in the name of the Indian team.
India made second embarrassing record
India made a strong start in reply to England’s first innings. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma fiercely scolded the English bowlers. Both shared 167 runs for the first wicket. Mandhana scored 78 runs in 155 balls with 14 fours. At the same time, Shefali played an innings of 96 runs in 152 balls with the help of 13 fours and 2 sixes. However, except these two batsmen, no other Indian player could survive, due to which the second Sharma record was made.
Mandhana and Shefali single-handedly collected 72.29 runs for the team in the first innings. But the rest of the players could only score 64 runs. This is the second time that the Indian women’s team has been dismissed so badly in a Test innings. The worst downfall of the Indian team was against the West Indies in the year 1976. India were bundled out for only 65 against West Indies in the second innings of that match. In the second innings, the openers put on 28 runs for the first wicket and the rest of the team could add only 37 runs.
Indian women’s team playing follow-on
Let us inform that England have given a follow-on to India after taking a strong lead of 165 runs in the first innings. India’s score was 83/1 till stumps on the third day and the team is still 82 runs behind. Shefali Verma 55 and Deepti Sharma are unbeaten on 18 runs. After the first session, the match had to be stopped for some time due to rain. Although the match resumed, the match was again interrupted after tea time due to rain and the third day’s play had to be stopped prematurely.
