- Indian cricket team beat hosts England by 151 runs in Lord’s Test
- India took a 1-0 lead in the test series, with only three test matches left
- England captain Joe Root looked stunned after the crushing defeat in the second test, won his heart with a statement
India vs England 2nd Test: In the second match of the Test series played between India and England at Lord’s Cricket Ground, the visiting team India registered a strong victory. On the final day of the match, India gave a target of 272 runs to England on the basis of their tail batsmen, and then in the midst of exciting moments, the English team was all out for 120 runs and registered a big win by 151 runs. This is the third victory in Indian cricket history at Lord’s. The England captain looked stunned by this win. However, after the match, he also won hearts with his statement.
These days when the rivalry in cricket has become very tough and every captain is under tremendous pressure, any captain will look disheartened and stunned to be defeated after five days of matches. On Monday, when India defeated England at the Lord’s ground, the condition of the host team’s captain Joe Root was also similar. He will not only be disappointed as a captain but he also gave a platform to his team to progress by playing a brilliant innings of 180 runs in the first innings of the match, so he was disappointed as a batsman too.
In such a situation, we have seen many captains who sometimes blame their defeat on their bowlers, sometimes on their fielders or sometimes on their batsmen, but captain Joe Root did not say anything like that. He took the responsibility of this defeat on himself. He says that the English team could not play according to the conditions but at the same time promised to return in the next matches.
Joe Root said, “We haven’t been able to handle these types of situations properly but there is still a lot of cricket to be played in this series and we will come back. As captain, I take the responsibility of defeat. We made mistakes but the credit for the win goes to them (India). As a team, we have played five-match series before and we can come back.
Joe Root, who is currently ranked fourth in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen, is just one notch above fifth-ranked Virat Kohli. The last one or two years have been great for Joe Root. Today, he is counted among the four top batsmen in the world, known as Fab-4, in which Kane Williamson, Virat Kohli and Steve Smith are named apart from him.
