New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has fulfilled the dream of former Kiwi batsman Martin Crowe to win the ICC tournament by winning the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) title. During the 2015 ODI World Cup final, ailing Martin Crowe wanted New Zealand to win the ICC tournament title. New Zealand won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2000.

However, New Zealand had to face defeat at the hands of Australia in the final match of 2015. Crowe died a year later. After this, New Zealand also reached the final of the 2019 World Cup where they had to face defeat at the hands of England according to the boundary count.

Williamson said after the match, “It’s a very special occasion and a great feeling. We’ve been to the finals many times before. We lost in a one-sided match in 2015 while the match in 2019 was interesting. But the feeling was different. Which is awesome.” Kane Williamson is one of the four best batsmen of this century.

Williamson said, “2019 was a good occasion and a great game of cricket. But obviously it was a different feeling. Winning the first WTC Final title is a really great feeling.”

Before the final, India was considered a strong contender for this title as they have won more series abroad. “I think it’s important for us to realize that we can’t always have stars in the team. We’ve given our all in every match and stay competitive,” Williamson said.

“It was important for us to stick to our style of cricket and we did that. We knew how strong the Indian team was. We have seen this for a long time,” he said.
