New Zealand’s cricket team will tour Pakistan only after getting a green signal from security adviser Reg Dickason after some of its players expressed security concerns about visiting the neighboring country due to the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan. New Zealand are scheduled to reach Islamabad on September 11 to play three ODIs and five T20 Internationals in Rawalpindi and Lahore. The series will run till October 3.

New Zealand Cricket officials, however, have now decided to engage the services of international security advisor and expert Reg Dickason to know the security situation in Pakistan. Dickason will visit Pakistan later this week to assess its security and COVID-19 preparedness, after which he will advise whether New Zealand should send their team there.

A source in the Pakistan Cricket Board said, “Dikason has been regularly touring Pakistan for the International Cricket Council and other boards in recent years to provide security and other cricket related information, so we are confident that after the situation in Afghanistan, No one can be better than him to give a real report of the security situation in this area.

New Zealand are already expected to send their weak squad as seven to eight of their top players will miss the tour due to their commitments to the Indian Premier League. Captain Kane Williamson is also included in these players.
