Peshawar Zalmi batsman Haider Ali and pacer Umaid Asif will miss the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final against Multan Sultans on Thursday as they have been suspended for violating the biologically safe environment in Abu Dhabi.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that the incident took place on Wednesday. The tournament’s COVID-19 management panel decided to suspend both the players hours before the final. Ali’s suspension also forced the PCB to drop the middle-order batsman from tours of England and the West Indies.
“They have accepted allegations of violation of health and safety norms by meeting people outside biologically safe environments and also failing to observe social distancing,” the PCB said in a statement.
Multan middle-order batsman Shoaib Maqsood has replaced Ali in the squad for the tour of England and West Indies. Chief selector Mohammad Wasim took the decision after consulting head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and captain Babar Azam.
