Mumbai: Former India batsman Sunil Gavaskar says that India did not show the necessary restraint in the final match of the World Test Championship (WTC) against New Zealand recently. New Zealand beat India by eight wickets in a rain-stopped WTC final match.
‘The atmosphere was pleasant on the last day of the match’
Gavaskar said, ‘The atmosphere was pleasant on the last day of the match and the sun was also rising. But the Indians who got used to the limited overs match did not show the required restraint in Tests. India’s second innings was bundled out for 170 runs in that match and New Zealand had a target of 139 runs to win.
‘Williamson showed how to play’
Gavaskar said, ‘The kind of restraint and shot selection required in such an environment was shown in both the innings of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.’ He said, ‘Williamson showed how a batsman has to play shots in such an environment. He batted like he knows how to play here and that’s how all batsmen should play.
