Although the BCCI has not taken the final decision yet, it is expected that like the second phase of IPL 2021, the world may also be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). BCCI secretary Jay Shah has also said that the board can organize the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
‘We can shift the T20 World Cup’
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah told ANI, ‘Due to the Corona situation in the country, we can shift the T20 World Cup to be held in India to UAE. We are keeping a close watch on the situation. The health and safety of the players is of paramount importance to us. We will take a final decision in this regard soon. Let us tell you that the matches of the World Cup will be played from October 17 to November 14. At the same time, the second phase of the IPL will be held in the UAE from September 19 to October 15. In such a situation, the T20 World Cup will start only two days after the IPL.
A recent report claimed that two days after the IPL 2021 ends, the T20 World Cup will begin with eight teams – Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea. Four of these teams will fight for a place in the Super-4. Round 1 elimination matches can be held in UAE as well as Oman. However, clear information about the venue of the T20 World Cup 2021 is expected to be revealed only after June 28. Actually, the ICC has given the deadline of June 28 to the BCCI to clear its position regarding the T20 World Cup.
