Captain Unmukt Chand, who won India the Under-19 World Cup in 2012, surprised everyone by suddenly announcing his retirement on Friday. After announcing his retirement, Unmukt has revealed that he will now play a cricketer in America. He has confirmed a three-year deal with Major League Cricket. The 28-year-old batsman has become one of those Indian domestic players who are shifting to America. Before him, Sunny Sohal, Sarabjit Lada and Rajesh Sharma of Punjab and Harmeet Singh of Mumbai, Smit Patel of Gujarat and Milling Kumar of Delhi have also moved to America. Harmeet and Patel were with Unmukt’s U-19 team, which won the World Cup.

Unmukt while talking to Cricbuzz said that he is going to America and wants to play good cricket there. He can also play for the US cricket team after the completion of his residency career. Unmukt said that it is very difficult for a person like me, who always dreamed of playing for the country. This is very emotional for me. It was a very painful decision for me. However, the last few years have not been very good for me. There was a lot of politics to be faced among other things.

He further said that I could not play much cricket because of such things. That’s why I took this decision to play some good cricket in America. I would like to thank BCCI for their support. Let us inform that Unmukt made his debut in domestic cricket in the year 2010 and played 67 first-class matches in which he scored 3379 runs at an average of 31.57. In 120 List A matches, he scored 4505 runs at an average of 41.33 and 1565 runs in 77 T20Is. He did not get the opportunity to play any international match.

Unmukt was forced to look afresh after his state team Delhi could not make it to limited overs tournaments like the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 this year, reports IANS. Unmukt’s 2019-20 season with the Uttarakhand team was also not special and he had to leave the state and try his luck for Delhi in the 2020-21 season. He scored 144 runs in his last six matches for Uttarakhand.
