Let us inform that Unmukt has confirmed his retirement on his official Twitter account. However, he also added that he is ready to take advantage of the opportunities that cricket offers around the world.
The 28-year-old batsman, in his statement, said that in the last few years things have not been as smooth and opportunities have not come. I am not very satisfied with the way things have turned out. He further said that cricket is a universal sport. Even though the votes may change, the ultimate objective is always the same i.e. to play cricket at the highest level. The cricketer said that many many thanks to my supporters and well wishers, who always kept them in their hearts. There can be no better feeling than that people love you. I am lucky to have such people. Thanks to you all. Now let’s move on to the new innings of life.
Unmukt did not get a chance to play any international match for India. He started his domestic career from Delhi in 2010 and played for the team for 8 seasons. He also captained the team. But he was dropped from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squat in 2017 and then became an irregular member of the team. After this, Unmukt started playing for Uttarakhand in 2019, but to no avail. He came back to Delhi. He was not included in the playing XI in any of the fixtures in the 2020/21 season. He scored 3379 runs in first-class cricket, 4505 runs in List A cricket and 1565 runs in T20Is.
Unmukt also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but has not been a part of any franchise for the past several years. He played the last IPL match for Mumbai Indians in the year 2016. Apart from Mumbai, he represented Delhi Capitals (old name Delhi Daredevils) and Rajasthan Royals in the league. He scored 300 runs in 21 IPL matches at an average of 15.0. Unmukt was one of the youngest players to get an IPL contract in 2011. He was first associated with the Delhi franchise.
