LONDON: Pakistan suffered their second consecutive embarrassing defeat at the hands of second-class England team on Saturday. In the match played at the historic Lord’s, Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and invited England to bat first. The match started late due to rain and both the innings were reduced to 47-47 overs. The entire team of England, who came to bat first, was all out after scoring 247 runs in 45.2 overs. In reply, Pakistan’s team was bundled out for 195 runs in 41 overs and lost the match by 52 runs as well as lost the series.
There were many mistakes in the match with Pakistan, which captain Babar Azam also admitted after the match. Babar Azam said, ‘We bowled well in the first 10 overs, but then did not bowl well in the next 10 overs. Apart from this, we did a lot of bad batting. We didn’t start well and lost wickets at regular intervals. We failed to partner.
Babar Azam praised his two players. The Pakistan captain said, ‘I would like to give credit to Hasan Ali, who got us back with excellent bowling. Hasan Ali bowled brilliantly and Saud Shafiq showed his performance. Let us tell you that Hasan Ali took 5 wickets for 51 runs in 9.2 overs in the second ODI. At the same time, Saud Shafiq scored the first half-century of his ODI career and scored 56 runs in 77 balls with the help of four fours.
Babar Azam hoped that in the next match, he will overcome his shortcomings and make a strong comeback on the field. Azam said, ‘We hope to overcome our shortcomings before going into the third ODI. We are looking at the next match as a good opportunity as the points table is still at stake.
Talking about Babar Azam, his performance with the bat was very poor. In the first ODI, he was dismissed without opening an account, while in the second ODI he returned to the pavilion scoring only 19 runs. Babar Azam is considered one of the best batsmen of the modern era, but the current tour of England is not going well for him. Azam hoped that in the next match, he and his team are focusing on performing well. The third and final ODI of the series between Pakistan and England will be played in Leeds on Tuesday.
