Nottingham: There was no result of the first match of the five-Test series between India and England. The first Test, played at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge ground, ended in a draw on Sunday. Due to rain on the fifth and last day, not a single ball could be bowled. It started raining in the morning and the game of season two was completely washed out. After this the umpires did not see the situation getting better and then it was decided to end the match on a draw.
England had given India a target of 209 runs and in response, the Indian team had scored 52 runs in 14 overs for the loss of 1 wicket till the fourth day’s play. On Saturday, Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara remained unbeaten on 12-12. The team’s only wicket fell in the form of opener KL Rahul (26). He was caught by Stuart Broad in the 11th over at the hands of Jos Buttler behind the wicket.
England scored 303 runs in the second innings
England scored 303 runs in their second innings with the help of captain Root’s 109. England had scored 183 runs in their first innings, in response to which India scored 278 runs and took a lead of 95 runs. Root presented a fine batting line-up and faced 172 balls in his innings and hit 14 fours but he did not get support from the other end. Other England batsmen started well but failed to score big.
England started playing 11 runs ahead for no loss in the morning. Indian pacer Bumrah (5 for 64) played a key role in England’s second innings wrap while maintaining his fine momentum as in the first innings. This is the sixth time he has taken five or more wickets in an innings. Mohammad Siraj (2 for 84) and Shardul Thakur (2 for 37) supported him well. England lost the last three wickets within eight runs.

England has been dominating against India in Tests. The two teams have met 127 times in Tests, with England winning 48 matches. Indian team got success in 26 matches. Apart from this, 50 Tests in both the teams ended in a draw. At the same time, India’s record has been very disappointing when it comes to Tests played on England’s soil. India has played a total of 63 Tests in England and has won only 7 matches. England, on the other hand, tasted victory in 34 matches. 22 Tests were drawn.
