ColomboSri Lanka’s leading all-rounder Isuru Udana surprised the cricketing world by suddenly announcing his retirement from international cricket on Saturday. Udana has retired from international cricket with immediate effect. Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed Udana’s retirement by tweeting. He represented Sri Lanka in 27 ODIs and 35 T20 Internationals.
Announcing his retirement, Udana said, “I believe my time has come to make room for the next generation of players. It is with great pride and passion and unwavering commitment that I have represented the country and rendered my services. Udana played his last international match against India in the recently concluded series.
Let us tell you that Isuru Udana’s performance in the recently concluded series against India was not good. He got a chance to play in one ODI and two T20 International matches. In the first ODI of the series, Udana got a chance to play, in which he scored 8 runs, while conceding 27 runs in two overs. Apart from this, he also got a chance in the first and second T20 International match, but he did not succeed in taking a single wicket.
Isuru Udana made his T20 International debut in 2009 against Australia in the T20 World Cup. The left-arm pacer had spent 47 runs in the match played in Nottingham, but took the wickets of Brad Haddin and David Hussey. Udana made his ODI debut in 2012. He was also a useful lower order batsman. He scored one half century each in ODIs and T20 Internationals.
Let us inform that Isuru Udana played 21 ODIs and 35 T20 International matches in his international career. During this he scored 237 runs in ODIs and 256 runs in T20 Internationals. The left-arm medium pacer took 18 wickets in ODIs at an average of 52.77. He took 27 wickets in T20 International cricket at an average of 33.88. However, Isuru Udana yearned to play the Test match. He didn’t get a chance to play a single test.
Udana represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020 and became captain Virat Kohli’s main weapon in bowling. Isuru Udana got 10 matches to play for Virat Kohli-led RCB, taking 8 wickets at an average of 35.25. However, his economy (9.72) remained very expensive. Isuru Udana was bought by RCB for Rs 50 lakh.
