During the final of the ongoing World Test Championship between New Zealand and Team India in Southampton, Kiwi captain Kane Williamson has made a big record in his name. World No.1 Test batsman Kane Williamson missed his half-century by just one run in the first innings of the final against India but before returning to the pavilion, he overtook former captain Stephen Fleming in the list of Kiwi players with most Test runs.

Kane Williamson played a struggling innings of 49 runs off 177 balls on the fifth day of the World Test Championship final on Tuesday. He hit 6 fours in his innings which lasted 294 minutes. Before he could hit the fifty, India’s experienced fast bowler Ishant Sharma got him caught by Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Of course Williamson could not score a half-century but returned to the pavilion only after making a big record. Williamson is now second in the list of highest run-scorers in New Zealand’s Test history. He has grabbed the No.2 spot in this list, slipping former captain Stephen Fleming from second to third place.

Kane Williamson has now scored 7178 runs in 147 innings of 85 Test matches at an impressive average of 53.57. He has 24 centuries and 32 half-centuries to his name in his Test career. In the list of highest run-getters for New Zealand, he is now behind only his teammate Ross Taylor, who has 7517 runs to his name.
