Indian cricket team coach Ravi Shastri on Thursday admitted that New Zealand were the better team in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). India lost the final by eight wickets after a poor batting performance. With this, Virat Kohli’s team once again missed out on getting close to winning the big title. India has not won any International Cricket Council title under Kohli.
In the final, the Indian team could only score 217 and 170 runs in both the innings. Shastri wrote on Twitter a day after the final, “Given the circumstances, the better team wins. After waiting the longest for the world title, he deserved to win. This is an example that big things don’t come easily. Great game, New Zealand. respect”
Before Wednesday, New Zealand had won their only ICC title in 2000. New Zealand had earlier lost in the finals of the 2015 and 2019 Cricket World Cups.
Before the title match, Shastri had suggested that the future WTC Finals should be a best-of-three series. On Wednesday, Kohli supported Shastri’s suggestion.
