New Delhi: Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant tested positive for COVID-19 on July 8 and has been under quarantine at his friend’s house in London since then. The left-handed batsman is not going to Durham with the Indian team due to the virus. Another Indian wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha is also in isolation as he came in contact with Kovid-19 positive.

Before the five-match Test series against England, the Indian team will play a practice match against the County Championship XI from July 20. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Rishabh Pant has not got Kovid-19 from watching the match at Wembley Stadium. Reports said that Pant went to the dentist on July 5 and 6. Quoting a source, TOI said, “Pant had gone to the dentist on July 5 and 6 and he probably got the virus from the clinic. On July 7, Pant was vaccinated.

Pant had watched Euro 2020 match

On 29 June, Rishabh Pant watched the Euro 2020 match between Germany and England at the Wembley Stadium. The left-handed batsman had also posted photos of it on his Instagram handle. BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said, “Pant had tested positive for COVID-19 on July 8 and was not in the team hotel during the break. He further said, ‘The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring Rishabh Pant and he is on the path of recovery. He can join the team in Durham after two R-PCR tests come negative. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also defended the wicket-keeper batsman, saying that it is not physically possible to wear a mask all the time.

Ganguly said, ‘I saw Euro Championship and Wimbledon in England. Changed the rules (allowing spectators inside the stadium). The cricketers were on leave and it is physically impossible to wear masks all the time.
