- Kiwi team took a big decision
The T20 World Cup is to begin in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in October, but the New Zealand team has already started preparing. Taking a big decision before the World Cup, the Kiwi team has appointed its former fast bowler Shane Bond as the coach. Bond will be the fourth coach of the New Zealand cricket team. Ahead of the World Cup, Bond will be in the UAE with Mumbai Indians for the second season of the IPL. The former bowler will also be with the New Zealand team for the three-match T20I series against India after the World Cup. How much the fortunes of New Zealand will change with the addition of Bond, only time will tell. It is known that New Zealand has not won any World Cup yet.
‘Benefit from bond experience’
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said the team would benefit from Bond’s experience. He said, ‘Shane has been with us before and understands us. He will be in UAE just before the World Cup and his experience will benefit the team. He will work exclusively with the bowlers, helping the spins and the fast bowlers in their planning. We need to be one step ahead of other teams.
Let us tell you that Stead has used a fourth coach in the last domestic summer season. However, so far the fourth coach has been used only on foreign tours. Current batting coach Luke Ronchi was the fourth assistant in the England-Sri Lanka tour and in the ODI world. Stead said that for me the fourth coach is an opportunity to bring different voices together. We have used it in many ways in the past. We are delighted to have Shane join us.
Shane played international cricket for 9 years
Shane Bond made his international debut in 2001. He played 82 ODIs and 18 Test matches on the field. He took 147 wickets in ODIs at an average of 20.88. At the same time, Shane took 87 wickets in Tests at an average of 22.09. Apart from this, he also played 20 T20 Internationals and took 25 wickets at an average of 21.72. He played his last international match in the year 2010, which was a T20.
