  • Criticism intensifies after Team India’s defeat in World Test Championship final
  • There is a drought of centuries for a long time, not able to play important innings like before

Indian fans are very angry with the team’s batsmen after the humiliating defeat of Team India in the ICC World Test Championship. After being bundled out for just 170 runs in the second innings, fans have lashed out at the Indian batting order on social media. At the top of these criticisms is once again the name of Indian captain Virat Kohli, whose poor form still continues and also a drought of centuries.

Star batsman Virat Kohli has been battling poor form for more than a year and a half. He last scored a century in Tests in November 2019 against Bangladesh. Since then, his average in Tests has been 24.64. However, his performance in ODIs is slightly better and he averages 43.26.

Kohli, who could become the highest Test scorer in his career, is six steps away from Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 ODI hundreds. Kohli has scored three half-centuries in eight Tests since his last Test century in November 2019. Kohli had scored two half-centuries against England in Chennai. Apart from this, he scored a half-century in the Test match played against Australia in Adelaide.

Since November 2019, Kohli has scored 649 runs in 15 ODIs. Kohli has been a bit better in ODIs than in Tests and has scored eight fifties but has failed to score a Test century.

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has said that the drought of a century will be on Kohli’s mind but he will recover from it. “Kohli is close to 7500 Test runs and this is a format where he can give everything comfortably,” Bangar told a channel.

However, T20 is the only format in which Kohli has improved. Since the last century, Kohli has scored 709 runs in T20s at an average of 64.45.
