The Test series between India and England has just reached the second Test and the process of change is going on in both the teams. England’s team has included 24-year-old fast bowler Shakib Mahmood in the team for the second Test starting at Lord’s Cricket Ground from Thursday. Saqib Mahmood is a bowler of Pakistani origin and recently he also showed his mettle in the limited overs cricket series against Pakistan.
Regarding this new entry in the team, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued a statement saying, “Fast bowler Mahmood has been included in the squad for the second Test against India. Spin bowler Dom Bess has been dropped. And he is returning to Yorkshire.” Apart from Shakib, England have also included all-rounder player Moeen Ali in the team.
Showed strength against Pakistan
Right-arm fast bowler Saqib Mahmood was seen playing in the limited overs cricket series against Pakistan in July this year. He has played seven ODIs so far in which he has taken 14 wickets and has taken 7 wickets in nine T20 Internationals. In the very first match of the ODI series against Pakistan, Shakib took 4 wickets for 42 runs, which brought him into the limelight of the cricket world.

Fast bowler Saqib Mahmood was born on 25 February 1997 in Birmingham, England. Saqib’s parents are from Pakistan. About two years ago in 2019, there was a moment when he was not allowed to travel due to visa problem during England’s tour of India. In the same year, he made a splash in the Royal London Cup and he became the first bowler for Lancashire team to take 5 wickets in any home ODI match.
Saqib got the opportunity to play in the T20 series against New Zealand at the end of 2019, while he was also included in the ODI team the very next month. Subsequently, in February 2020, Shakib Mahmood was included in the Test squad for England’s tour of Sri Lanka, replacing veteran bowler Mark Wood with an injury.
