New Delhi: Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar believes that Kyle Jamieson, who has bowled brilliantly against India’s best batsmen in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, has the potential to become one of the leading all-rounders in world cricket in the days to come. Jamieson’s contribution was crucial in making New Zealand the WTC champion. He took seven wickets for 61 runs in the bowling of 44 overs in the match. Along with this, he also scored 21 runs in the first innings.
‘Kyle Jamieson to be leading all-rounder’
Tendulkar said on his YouTube channel, ‘Kyle Jamieson is a great all-rounder. He will go on to become one of the leading all-rounders in world cricket. The former veteran said, ‘When I saw him last in New Zealand, he impressed me.’ Tendulkar then went on to elaborate why the conditions in England made Jamieson’s bowling even more lethal.
‘Saudi is a different bowler than Boult’
He said, ‘If you look at his bowling, he is very tall and he likes to use the seam of the ball more than swing. He is a different bowler than Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Neil Wagner. He said, ‘Jameison hits the ball hard on the pitch. He bowled an inswing (incoming ball for a right-handed batsman) at a wrist angle. There was variety in his bowling and I really liked his consistency.
Sachin liked this shot of Jameson
Tendulkar also liked Jamieson’s way of playing big shots using his height. He said, ‘His partnership with Williamson was important for New Zealand. He chose to attack with the first ball and used his length to the best of his ability. It’s great for a tall batsman to come on the front foot.
“This disturbed the pace of the bowlers and they had to shorten the length of their deliveries,” he said.
Kohli-Pujara’s wicket fall disappointing
Regarding India, he said that the wicket of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara in the first hour of play on the sixth day of the match was disappointing. He said, ‘It was very important on the last day to bat without any loss till the first drinks break (opening one hour). After that our batsmen have the ability to play big shots. He said, ‘It also makes the rest of the players feel that they are safe and New Zealand will not be able to achieve the target. It was important to build a good partnership at the start of the day.
