Colombo: India and Sri Lanka are facing each other in the first ODI on Sunday. The clash between the two teams is being held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. But as soon as he came to the field for the toss, Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan gave a big feat. Let us tell you that Dhawan has been given the reins of Team India in the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli. Another Indian team under Kohli’s captaincy is currently on the England tour, where they have to play a five-match Test series from August 4.
Dhawan created this big history
Shikhar Dhawan has created a big history as an ODI captain and broke a 37-year-old record. He has become the oldest captain of India to debut as an ODI captain. He took over this responsibility in ODIs at the age of 35 years and 225 days. Left-handed opener Dhawan is the 25th ODI captain of India. Earlier this record was registered in the name of former Indian cricketer Mohinder Amarnath. He became the captain of the ODI team at the age of 34 years and 37 days. Amarnath became the captain in 1984 against Pakistan in Sialkot.
This is the oldest captain
Significantly, Dhawan is the oldest Indian captain to debut as a captain since Hemu Adhikari in 1959. The officer got the command of the Indian team at the age of 39. Overall India’s oldest record is also in the name of the officer. Apart from Dhawan, the oldest players to captain Team India are Vinoo Mankad, CK Nayudu, Vijay Hazare, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and Lala Amarnath. All of them were 36 years old when they debuted as captains.
