The Sri Lankan team had to face a crushing defeat by 7 wickets at the hands of Team India in the first ODI. Chamika Karunaratne (43 not out), captain Dasun Shanaka (39) and Charit Aslanka (38) batted for Sri Lanka. At the same time, in reply, India won at the loss of three wickets in 36.4 overs thanks to the brilliant innings of Shikhar Dhawan (86 not out), Ishan Kishan (59) and Prithvi Shaw (43).

Shanaka gave this statement after the defeat

After losing the first match of the three-match ODI series, captain Dasun Shanaka said, ‘We started well but the ball was coming a little stuck. Indian team bowled brilliantly. I am happy to take charge of the Sri Lankan team. Also, Shanaka praised the Indian batsmen for playing aggressively. He said, ‘Indian team batted very aggressively. We needed to change the pace as the ball was coming well on the bat. We all know how good they are, but our bowlers need to improve in the next match.

Shanaka replaced Perera as captain

Dasun Shanaka has been named as the captain in place of Kusal Perera. Perera was the captain of the Sri Lanka team that toured England, but due to a contract dispute, the responsibility was handed over to Shanaka. Shanaka is the 10th captain to lead the Sri Lanka cricket team in the last four years. Earlier, Shanaka had captained in the three-match T20 series against Pakistan in the year 2019. Sri Lanka had cleaned up Pakistan in this series. It is worth noting that the main team of India, led by Virat Kohli, is on a tour of England, due to which Dhawan is taking over the command of Team India on the Sri Lanka tour.
