The captain gave this gift after becoming a champion

After winning the Test Championship title, Captain Williamson said, ‘It is a special feeling. For the first time we have won a world title. I want to thank Virat and Team India. They are an excellent team. We knew what a challenge to face. But our team showed tremendous courage and we were able to win a world title. However, the spirit with which 22 players from both the teams played, deserves all the praise. This tournament will be remembered for a long time.

‘There were many ups and downs in the final’

Williamson said, ‘We don’t always have all the stars and we saw that in this match. We saw the courage and commitment of the players in the title match. We know how strong India is in every situation. This final was very volatile. There were many ups and downs and some shortcomings of the teams were also seen. For six days no team had the upper hand. However, I am happy that we were successful in the end.

‘The lower order played well in the first innings’

The Kiwi captain further said, ‘It was very difficult to play in the first innings. But the lower order played with more freedom and gave us the lead, which gave us strength. It is known that at one point in New Zealand’s first innings, the situation had turned sour, when 6 wickets fell on the total score of 162. In such a situation, Kyle Jameson (21) and Tim Southee (30) saved the team from faltering. At the same time, Williamson praised Ross Taylor and said, ‘Ross is very experienced and calm. He understands these situations very well. It was great to bat with him till the end.
